A biography kindly written by Elizabeth C Murphy author of Irish Wolfhound Raising and Showing. Irish Wolfhound Photograph and Pedigree book.
Karina worked as a Veterinary Nurse at a Dublin Animal Clinic for seven years.
Due to her competence and dedication, as the years passed ,she was promoted to the position of Head Veterinary Nurse. During her time nursing she developed an interest in grooming when tidying up stray dogs for re-homing at the Clinic.
Karina started her grooming career part time while working as nurse. That was back in '92/93 - nearly 30 years ago! She made it her full time career in 1994.
Karina is a founder member of the Irish Professional Dog Groomers Association. A body set up in the mid 1990s by conscientious groomers to raise the standard of Grooming in Ireland. They organise Seminars, given by both Breed Specialists and overseas Grooming Specialists. They organised grooming competitions each year which were judged by Top Winning Groomers from abroad.
Karina competed many times in Ireland and won Irish Groomer of the Year, Individual Groomer, Scissor, Hand-Strip and Clipped Classes during those years. She also competed in UK and was placed in the hand-strip Gun-dog Experienced group. Karina competed in Europe as part of the Irish Grooming Team at the World Grooming Championships on three occasions, 1999 in London, 2005 in MontPellier, France and 2007 in Milan.
Karina is still involved with the Irish Groomers Association, now as a judge and demonstrator at their seminars.
Karina took and passed the full compliment of grooming exams held by the City and Guilds and also took and was awarded the Higher Diploma. Having attained LCGI with City and Guilds, she was invited to become a member of the Guild of Master Groomers. There are 25 members of this prestigious group and only 15 of them are approved Assessors and Examiners for Groomers City & Guilds exams in UK & Ireland.
To promote Canine First Aid, Health & Safety, Karina studied, qualified and is now a Canine First Responder and Instructor. This work prompted Karina to study Energy Healing.
She has now added Animal Healing to her list of Woofters Services.
Karina’s spare time is spent enjoying her horse who has no respect for her many accomplishments as a groomer. He can bring her back to earth with a thud!
They partake in dressage and more recently Le Trec. She also tries to partake in Agility lessons with her boxers.
As can be seen, Karina has a wealth of experience and is able to supply the fullest set of services to her clients at WOOFTERS.
